The Laetare louviérois, carnival louvière 2010
March 19th, 2010

I was contacted by Lionel as part of a book project on the Carnival of La Louviere, which will be published by the company of Gilles merchants, plus a photo book, a book in fact, at last something composed of large images with a small line caption for the picture.
We had 6 photographers working on the story, I was the only foreigner in folklore, one reason among others why I had been chosen: the advantage of being outside is that we have a look "candid" on folklore. In addition, in a city where almost everyone knows, if it was my city I would have risked to spend more time talking with people that make images: there was not the case. In my case, I know nobody has to spend more time with a box in his hand a glass of beer (hey, it's an image, I do not like beer).
Carnival of La Louviere is less well known than Binche (which is part of UNESCO heritage). In my head of Boeotian, it was only the Gilles in Binche, the Gilles Louviere has its folklore and its own, including the "burning of hump" that symbolizes the arrival of spring (cf. the photo of the gentleman straw burning).
If you want to know more about the folklore of the carnival of La Louviere
I was there Monday and Tuesday, two days to follow Gilles, every photographer had his "mission order" (balloon aerial photo, group photos, photo of a boat, etc..)
I was gone freestyle with a goal of entering the atmosphere and get the human contact, try to photograph things fairly simple but are not the whole, have images that tell something
I followed the Gilles during collection. Basically, Gilles Gilles will seek other from house to house, each time with a champagne stop - quite an interesting experience, we enter the world of people, we spend our time to refuse the champagne at 9 am for then move to another house and so on ... It's very friendly and even apart from alcohol, people are really open and welcoming!
Technical radius as usual as the fixed, I wish I had the 24 1.4 but it was not yet available, so a Nikon D3, a 14mm2.8, a 35 F2, a 50mm1.4 and a 85mm1
4 all in a small bag Domke F6.
For now, I made a selection of images "hot" right after the carnival, which will be refined to the book: I mean it's not necessarily who they appear, I still quite a few others and I will choose ...
Lionel has kindly hosted for the occasion which stopped me going back to the late hours. I am now waiting to see the work of other photographers, the book is in the hands of those responsible for the editing, I'm curious to see the "finished product". There will also be a photo exhibition at the book's release.
The book " The Laetare LOUVIEROIS "will be available late October 2010 and is available for pre order

March 19th, 2010 at 3:39
Beautiful photos, congratulations!
I was there it's just magic!
March 19th, 2010 at 3:49
Full of life!
I'm always stunned to your colors.
Hat, especially for pictures with a wide angle.
March 19th, 2010 at 3:54
Again a very nice set! Could you tell us what basic salary are you doing to get to like made with your photos?!
March 19th, 2010 at 4:57
the D3-resistant oranges?
gorgeous as usual!
March 19th, 2010 at 6:06
Superb ...
And the D3 has not suffered too much with all the shaving foam, confetti and other ...?
March 19th, 2010 at 6:30
As usual, great pictures of excellent quality ...
Looks like you used more CO Update wide angle than usual, but hey this is perhaps an impression.
I love how you followed the "Gilles", it really reportage. That said, I rather regret that there was no more than the public picture.
Ps: happy birthday (I saw it on your facebook page, but I'm not sure this is true!)

Super Clean really super Photos
As usual, no?
March 19th, 2010 at 8:56
superb, the atmosphere is well captured, the photos are beautiful. I use it to to honor an exceptional photographer disappeared too quickly, which was particularly fond of the carnival. Aurelie, the first carnival without you, too empty!

ca is a pleasure to see images!
plus c is the first time I see a festival "traditional" Belgian, and c is not for want of Japan in full view, I am surprised and impressed, ca al air and c is very nice photograph very well!
constructive comments at:
- The color changes better, the subjects lend sy
- Lots of pictures centered, a bit of a shame imho
- You often remains a height of man which makes some terrible base not (heads of other people, crowd), or your best images (girl with the umbrella etc.) are made by metant in diving, which can vary and unify the background, c is often what I do on festivals here (sometimes a little step stool 30cm completely change a series of photos on a parade)
- Last big favorite for the main image of the artcile, feet, quite the kind of evocative pictures that goes very well
in any case very beautiful story and vision of the Cross-six photographers should be very nice - nice project

Beautiful images that we look deep into the Laetare 2010 was a vintage year! Thank you
March 20th, 2010 at 5:35
Superb, well-loaded images, good management of light, the images "tell" good event, good emotion (special mention to Gilles who closes his eyes!) For my part I can not find the frames that focused too are mostly justified. That of the kid who looks at you with all the other looks that go up
March 20th, 2010 at 9:39
An impressive brightness as usual. These photos are superb and plans on the feet very aesthetic.
March 21st, 2010 at 10:51
Wonderful!
As mentioned above, a beautiful rendering of the carnival of La Louviere!
Ph.
nb: it's fixed focal!

Great class of images that tell, emotion and the technical side is forgotten in favor of images, class!
March 22nd, 2010 at 6:43
Beautiful colors for images on a human scale.
Great job, Ben.
March 22nd, 2010 at 9:03
I love how you managed to capture the attention
. Great!
March 22nd, 2010 at 2:34
Mashed beautiful!
The book will be available from when?
March 22nd, 2010 at 8:18
Super Matt!
It's boom?
March 23rd, 2010 at 8:59
Very well done!
Following me right in the region that has horrified the carnival, I almost want to go!
I have two favorite pictures: The "959", the little girl sitting in the middle of confetti! A picture very humanist, I love. And one with your article is "artistiquomarketinguement" perfect!
By cons, quick question ... I do not see much strain on the photos made 14mm. They recovered in post-production?
I want good information on the show too! It might be nice to see it on paper!
Nice work!

The Grisha, Julian, Sebastian Santarelli, Pingui, Eskay, Pascal, Fred Bertrand, Alexandre Yagoubi Idrissi, sab's, Alexandra Smith, Mark Lab-X, Philippe Denis, Fred, krysalia, Matt, firefighter the louviere / / / / thank you!
I answer more specific questions:
Dexter: On the report of this type, I adjust the contrast, white balance and sat in Capture One and I export for the web
Victor: Yes I like more and more wide angle, it's hotter to manage, but that says more to me
I have pictures of the public, but I focused on the selection gilles
alain: For the next B / W or color, I think this is justified, but it's very personal and I understand your opinion
- Yep for centering, for me are some images that need it and others where I wanted to avoid excessive distortion in UGA
- To the point of view, it is assumed, I like this mess ambient, and for whom a stool during a carnval you stay there long hung
We agree to the choice of the image, it's pretty illustrative
Pierre [Grapher & Co]: In some cases I think this is justified, it is difficult to explain but I see some images has shooting in B / W and I work in this direction
MickymX: Yep, it's expected!
Guyhom: end of October
Delphine: Yaa! AC drives, full of cool stuff, lack of time to post as usual ...
Twane: Nah, I just avoid too tapper my subjects in the corners

Via a very dear friend, I discovered these wonderful pictures ...
That's 28 years since I set foot in the carnival of La Louviere, and when I got this story comes the desire to return ... but that's the real folklore ... the other is drinking and fight, the last image that sticks in my memory, it is the right fist of an asshole that happens on my face ... and then nothing ...
But frankly, what beautiful photos ..; beautiful light, beautiful color,
beautiful snapshots ... magnifique.Merveilleux

Bcp we learn to observe your pictures, their composition, Exif, your technique, your tips ...
Thank you for this!
A question about such a story: you are using one box? For objos used to see, you have to spend your time to change them, right?!
March 30th, 2010 at 5:24
As usual, it's beautiful! The costumes are really interesting, not kitsch, great respect for the image.
I am anxious that you talk to us a little more of your images slider input. The latter are really interesting.
April 6th, 2010 at 6:09
Very nice work! I love!
But ... how many arms / hands you have to handle a case and four fixed focal lengths .... I do not count the chads! Has it it too!
April 8th, 2010 at 11:23
Very nice work. ! The treatment works well with the costumes.
I am afraid to see how the future will present book, by mixing several styles of photographers.
I hope it's done tastefully.
It would be so + class with a single set ...
Thank you for sharing these photos
April 15th, 2010 at 8:14
Ma-gni-fic!!
Next year, I also file in Binche .... but I bet the photos of Benjamin are + beautiful than reality.
