Shooting Milo

May 22nd, 2009

http://www.photob.be/images/2009/milo/milobanner.jpg

Some pictures of an old series that I wanted to post some pictures on the blog.

For the site of Milo (dj Belgian program director for radio vibrationfm, dj on the Canadian station Soundbeat, resident DJ of you, foliesbourgeoises, noxx antwerp ...) the goal was to break the image of the DJ in front of his plate.

The image was to represent but also serve as an interface navigation by incorporating different elements that are clean.

Given the constraints (white, uniform light throughout the shoot) and studio work was needed, two flashes to overtake the background and give a return légé, a box of 1m on 80 as the primary source and a reflector to unclog areas if necessary.

Not having had the time of the trigger system for my studio flash, I worked with the slave flash mode, so I used a SB800 set a 1/64 just enough to trigger my external flash without real impact on the scene being photographed.

Small remark in passing, given the size of my car the studio background does not fit, so I had to cut like every time I carry a substance that exceed 20 centimeters, which is why the left has these nice little waves.

Radius goal, I worked at 50mm which allowed me to photograph the scene entierté without much apparent deformation, the tripod was not useful to stabilize the shot but to ensure it retains exactly the same framing for all taken.

Opening level, a good many F8 for depth of field and a good dive.

Post production level, the bottom did not cover the entire length of the image, so I just worked with a mask in order to have a solid background on the entire image.

Small detail that I quibble, the ground being the carpet, the space under the sofa is not perfectly straight, something that should have been corrected for the online site.

The images were imported under Capture One for the selection and the necessary adjustments (white balance, contrast, saturation, and then be exported without photoshop to even the bottom

It tears all :) I like the staging!

Milo looks very cool, here is a brand Milo chocolate powder mega-known kind Banania ;)

  2. Neele Says:

    Nickel!

    Great job as usual.

If you chipotes on the carpet ... what about the reflections in the vinyls? : Grin:

Do not push it either ... the result is more than good and ultimately the deformation belt goes well trs.

  3. Yannig Says:

Hehe nice video. SUPER GENERIC and say so! :-)

  4. Eric Says:

  6. Sophie Says:

    Excellent work.
I am never disappointed by coming to your blog.
I can not wait to see your site. The white background is a very good choice, which will be mine when updating my site. I started with white, continued in the dark, I'm going back to white. More refined, which suits me more.
The video is very good. I love seeing the video work. It provides a good overview. Editing is excellent.
    Roll on the next article.

  7. MickymX Says:

    clap clap clap ...
Thank you for this video. Class, and all dynamic.
The photo are clean ... it is clear that the carpet, I see a lot less than the reflections in the floor slabs ^ ^ but it must be a perfectionist, this is how we advance (as you advance)

  8. Olivier Says:

    Hi Ben,

Very nice making of this little ... you've got to spend a very nice time : O )
    Good luck for more ...
    A +

  9. Fifteen Says:

Nice this little video ... especially when we pause to 4'04 " :)

  10. Ben | photob Says:

delphine: Thank you:) I realize that these pictures have almost a year, I started having a serious backlog me!

Neele: The vinyls bother me unless the carpet is :)

Yannig: Thank msieur, a reader of Tanzania :)

Eric: The purpose of the video is to present a fairly rough conditions and I find it filled its role

    Naime Jonathan: Thank you

Sophie: It remains a matter of preference, I like the opposition of the site in white and gray blog :)

    MickymX: I agree ;)

    Olivier: Thanks!

Fifteen: Han, my hidden frame ;)

  11. Roman Faucher Says:

OOh your file with a nice picture of rash you! :)

  12. Eddy Says:

A small matter, photoshop side, you speak of utlisation a mask. You could say more in a few words?

And a year later, technically you take it in the same way you think? Anyway with a succinct asez material, you go out a photo nickel! Without fan fan of the studio, it makes you want to do it again :)

  13. Launie59 Says:

    Hi Ben,
It's been nearly two months that I spend a ride on your site at least once a day (even once more ... : Oops: ) Seeing if you have published a new article.
    This is done.
The quality of your photos is amazing. Your scenes are always well constructed and the sharpness of your pictures is green with envy my poor D80, even with the 50mm 1.4 that I bought (for a bit like you I confess!). I really want to spend the D300, but I do not know if my photos would be better ... What do you think?

The idea of the film is excellent for a novice like me, it sheds the way you work.
The subliminal image of the end, well done my smile. : Smile:
I eagerly await the opening of your site especially your full tutorial on the management of external flash units, even more (if you can) on your post production treatment, your photo gear, your way of staging, your professional advice (tricks), ...
Thank you for this moment of escape.

  14. Cyril Says:

Video excels, it is dynamic and it illustrates the entire session. All this was filmed with the Flip video? If it does, wow I would have used more then mine!

I also want you to offer help, without any claim to your site (I just read the other note, I am a consultant and web).

  15. Fred Says:

    you're a star!
the video, the shoot, the pictures!
I am a real fan of your work!

  16. APLC Says:

    The excellent short video ...

Bravo! it gives a clear idea of how to work, it's cool :)

  17. Jean Says:

    Very good job.
What type of flash did you use for the background? And also what power?

  18. g Says:

    Very clean! ;)

  19. pixel Says:

Excellent, very informative! I am amazed by the sculptural rendering of the face, ca near perfection!

The small detail that I quibble is the white object on the arm of the curve breaks Chesterfield based in white. Have you make the shots of the sofa alone, to be able to easily edit if necessary? I often do this stuff for images of pubs ...

And if not, I saw that you had a trigger wire Offir, € 15 for thou hast even a wifi on eBay ;)

  20. Dati Says:

Nice, very nice series and video's info.

But I'm the only one who saw the pair f ... at the end of the video? or other crap is squarely in the eye? (Caca, f ... f ..., poo is not it?)

  21. Eddy Says:

    Launie59 had already spoken ;)

  22. glenscolan Says:

hey hey, beautiful series. RAS, you give me ideas!

  23. mko Says:

nice video ... a new dimension here also easy to see who is the only bump ;) !

  24. Tanguy Says:

    Excellent!

Yet all the good work, man!

  25. Ben | photob Says:

pixel: Romain Faucher so little ;)

Eddy: Just a mask in Photoshop, there are a lot of tutorials on the basics of Photoshop on the net :)

Launie59: I do not think you will experience a qualitative leap in terms of image quality, it seems to me that the D80 and D300 share the same sensor, for the remaining construction, comfort is higher!

    The rest comes ;)

Cyril: Yep at Flip for which the web is very good for the site I spell fairly well, at the base I'm supposed to work also in the ouaibe ;) but thank you for the invitation

    Fred: Thank you!

    APLC: Thanks!

John: Flash no name, for I know too much power, I set off with a polarized cell

    g: Thank msieur

pixel: Thanks for the little burnt, crazy is a dynamic one in Raw D3 so basically all I could recover, for the trigger I'm happy with my radio trigger was 15 euros ;)

Dati: Naa just a wink ;)

    Eddy: Indeed

    glenscolan: it is the goal!

mko: Not really, good team work!

    Tanguy: thank you!

  26. Eddy Says:

I know a little, but I thought you had done something special. Apparently not ;)

  27. Heroow Says:

I pass from time to time, and I'm always pleasantly surprised!
In addition we now have the right to video!
Makes me want to put myself in the studio all that!
Remains only to find ... the budget!

  28. KIDLIMONAD Says:

    Hello B,
great your job on the website of DJ, I can not see your credit!
Such a shame. The intro page is terrible is it to you the idea to film the making off and integrated into the site. The site once past the intro is really great sorely lacking in tone.
Against by your job is very very good.
    Kidlimonad.

  29. Guyhom Says:

What is the background music please?

  30. Guyhom Says:

@ Myself: I found in fact: to live Shazam!

  31. Neele Says:

Quite the "subliminal" in Fight Club ;-)

  32. Dati Says:

    Hello,

This is what power your studio flash?

    See u ;-)

  33. Ben | photob Says:

Dati: the main flash is a 400w :)

  34. Louis Says:

nice video but 4 min 01 : Shock:

  35. Dati Says:

Is it me or the latest images in black and white are actually pictures taken with your D3?

Otherwise good return from Bali : Smile:

  36. Caroline Marquet Says:

;-) Great! I love the way you explain everything!
