This Saturday was held the festival "Rock the City" in Woluwe St Pierre Brussels, Festival that I covered last year .

The poster was rather rich with bands like: Joshua, Arid, Puggy, Pony Express, the Diplomat, Mint ... ( see poster )

This time in order not to make the public wait with endless sound checks, the organizers had installed a second scene (slightly smaller), so the public was moving from one scene to another. Two scenes with lighting quite different but equally interesting.

Being particularly tired after a big wedding the day before with Thomas (paper in preparation on condition that the couple agreed to share some of the shots), I did not give 100% and the images are felt; the frames are not the height of what I hoped for, shooting enough original. Images are technically good but it lacks that little extra that makes the difference.

In concert, just "adapt" the light engineer is responsible for the light (in this case a great job for a festival of this size) these groups have the public, just type the expression and light (why the flash is cursed). The work is very different from the portrait is you find yourself alone with a model and has built its own light.

The centering of the collimator D3 AFC is a bit tedious, with a grand opening when the singer moves well, I tend to switch to CFLs (continuous monitoring) and I often subject too centered.

So I stayed in AFS mode with a focus on the collimator center and cropping before shooting. I worked almost all night with an exhibition manual, spot metering and matrix metering were quickly deceived by the lights against the light.

Ray equipment, I used four goals, the 16mm, the 50mm, the 85mm and the 80/200.

In the end I had a good time, talked with interesting people, I'm ray picture of the "clean" but I was too "inside" out of good pictures.

Some videos of the artists

JOSHUA - PUNK ROCK SONG

JOSHUA - YOU KNOW HOW - CLIP

Puggy

PONY EXPRESS - Why the

Small note outside the festival, I have some items that should happen in the coming days (with a little bonus video), I should also rework with Stephane who visibly enjoyed our collaboration and even sent me a few cuts release (which is cool) and lots of other stuff in the works!

Tired, but still great shots ...

Can not wait to see the items in preparation anyway =)!

  2. David Says:

Frames actually quite classic but it's still nice.

Congratulations on your publications, I have just been published in JPG Magazine, and I know it's been very fun.

  3. Eddy Says:

By "expo manual", you mean M program?

  4. Benjamin | photob Says:

Sby: thank you! I'm working : Grin:

    David, thank you and congratulations!

    Eddy: yes, that's it :)

  5. Eddy Says:

Benjamin thank you, it confirms my idea. Because in evening, night, or just live, I tend to switch to manual and tried to make (or after testing) and to forget a little histogram measures and automatic expo.

That said, there was a lot of light at these concerts, I had a look at some Exif and you could do much to 200-400 isos. It surprises me!

By the way, great job for your site! It motivates them to progress :!:

  6. G Says:

    Series honest, really ... (:
I am constrained to move on me (:

  7. ksh Says:

    Hi Ben,

The No. 9 is mortal, I do not know how you managed to get there with 200ISO ... I remain captivated by what happens to you while the concert I had the opportunity to cover catastrophic level were light , you comes out really well.

    Good luck

  8. Sophie Says:

ok for some pictures, the framing is not great but the whole is coherent: nice angles, and beautiful colors.
It is said that the picture together is not the easiest due to the changing light, sometimes even nonexistent, and the moving subject.
Me is what I love. ;-)

  9. xavier Says:

Always so modest our small LKV : Mrgreen:

It is true that you have already done better, but certainly classic frames always as effective : Wink:

Feloches for your publication : Wink:

  10. gael_nc Says:

Hi Ben, I am big fan of your work, and I admire your pictures again or ambient light is everywhere. I'm following all your advice, I never get to have such pictures. The difference between a photographer and not a photographer LOL.
I would like to make pictures as beautiful as you.
Still a great job despite your fatigue.

  11. Lau Says:

Well, not bad for a photo as "I did not give 100%" ;-)

    Glad to meet you :)

  12. Fred Says:

Fortunately, you were tired, say so! : Wink:
I think the pictures are full of energy and the colors really fart!
    Once again, Bravo! : Grin:

  13. Benjamin | photob Says:

Eddie: Yep, there was plenty of light!

    G: thank you : Grin:

ksh: Thank you! Here I have no great merit, we must thank the engineers light :)

Sophie: Yep it's clean and colorful!

xavier: I not play the fake modest, I had images in mind that I could not get out : Wink:

gael_nc: Thank you, need to train and give!

    Lau: Yep the fun!

  14. Gam Says:

    Ben Yop

I begin to understand what's wrong with me live.

I love it with our little poseur of dIPLOMAT. Super flash of light before : Wink:

Well, in those fish with Joshua, now you disgusts me : Lol:

  15. Nawack Says:

I would have liked to know what you had in mind for better judged if you missed or are not, in any case provided the work is very clean. my preference for the 4th. You might be tired, and if you have worked through automation, well it's pretty good (although actually it feels a chouille, and cella not like you too as the two and especially that of the groupies)

and congratulations for the publication, a work justly rewarded.

  16. Bortels Christopher Says:

it's true that it lacks a little originality, but there are still good things : Mrgreen:

  17. Oli Says:

As you say well you can do better but hey you can always do better, it is characteristic of the artist not to be happy with his work (this is what makes progress if by chance you still have a room for improvement ...)

I am really fan of your work and I always hallucinate much to see what you come to a concert. It is super sharp and the colors are just nickel.

A real pleasure to come regularly on photob : Wink:

  18. klesk Says:

What a pleasure to see bassists in sexy skirt :) .

There was lack of articles lately. But I can wait long when I know why I wait. And with your shots are rarely disappointed.

  19. delphine Says:

Bah, I found a little hard on yourself, although I understand that you to be ;)

    Congratulations on publishing your photos.
A double in the press it rocks well in a portfolio! Benjamin ended amateur vivid Benjamin PRO!!

  20. Vincent Says:

Benjamin, another great series despite the fatigue, must be accustomed to seeing your work in pr feel a slight difference, but nickel qd same job. : Wink:

  21. Alex Says:

Tofs beautiful concert, tired or not tired : Smile:

Anyway, I see that you are always on the right side of the fence : Wink:

  22. MickymX Says:

pffff your shots are really beautiful at 85. The first: the color, posture, sharpness (for what we can see ...) yum

What frustrates me with the picture together is that it is not easy to get out of the framing standard / conventional. In a series, I miss some shots appendices to illustrate the evening: a microphone stand, the effects pedals, one be shoes ...
Nice set honest, this is not what I prefer in your work (even though I'm light years to do as well, pro especially homogeneous)
    At the next

  23. MickymX Says:

PS: this is not a condom on steroids that can be seen here behind the lady gente :?:

    Class : Lol:

  24. Benjamin | photob Says:

Gam: it is ca enables progress! instantly I'm glad I took the fish :)

Nawack: Other frames more ambitious, I move on and behind the scene (my access would permit :) ) I find that a short hair plan plan :)

Christophe Bortels: thank you! still no room in your suitcase?

Oli: Thanks! I'm very demanding and rarely fully satisfied somewhere I think it helps me to move!

    klesk: Thank you!

delphine: I have a lot of stuff in boxes, for lack of time I can not publish everything :) thank you!

    Vincent: thank you!

Alex: thank you! I always try :)

MickymX: you're right the images lack context, the cheering crowd, the details ect :)

ps: yep obviously someone has not yet grasped the usefulness :)

  25. jean-luc Says:

    hello ben,
what is great about a guy like you, is sincerity, honesty and the decline (from yourself) that you show.
You have already effectively out of the best series ....
but that said, it's a good job technically.
I'm in the same situation, where out of the "good" every time, it's hard, hard as it is to renew itself .... in our frames, our colors, our effects etc. ....
but your honesty and your requirement will be that step that it is moving, will undoubtedly.
and us, it also experiences the d3 does not answer everything and it is not he who made the tophs, but we poor humans, so tired ....

Me, I always work in full manual, at every concert, I never leave the unit in charge, "they" are not yet sophisticated enough to correctly select the show ....
I hate all the programs auto or semi auto .... it does not bring you the desired result.
good show, it is the result of a couple speed diaphragm and your eye must master it all, but I know I tell you nothing, it's not my goal anyway.

    continuous guys!

  26. pixel Says:

Cool series anyway, ca makes you want to try it anyway!

  27. Rudy Says:

    Hi Ben,

Nice series, I arrive a little late but I'll take some pictures together soon, I would just like to know a bit about how you treated your post picture ..?
