Photos of Scotland
July 14th, 2008
Back from a short week restorative Scotland I propose a small set loose with mainly landscape on the menu.
The landscape is an area that I have too little explored until now. I took the hardware as a Optical D3: 16mm, 12/24 Dx, 50mm, 85mm and 80/200 all housed in a Lowepro CompuTrekker home.
avec de petites ouvertures. In the end I realize that a D80 with 18/200 would have been much more appropriate, almost all the images were taken at 200 iso with small openings. In landscape research is mainly the large depth of field and exposure time are rarely of importance (with tripod).
m'a donc permis d'embraser le plus grand champs possible avec la contrainte de bien respecter les lignes d'horizon pour éviter la déformation inhérente de l'objectif. In this case I did not have a real wide angle, the 12/24 is a DX lens and can only be used from 20mm fisheye has allowed me to engulf the largest fields can with the constraint of complying with the horizon lines to avoid the distortion inherent in the goal.
I intend to complete this post in the coming days with some tips on the trip to Scotland with a few pictures to illustrate this information.
Feel free to let me know your comments and questions!

It's not bad at all, we actually feel a little less comfortable in this kind of exercise but for a start it's still very good.
July 14th, 2008 at 4:31
you're really good at all, you, it's frustrating
Give me your eyes
July 14th, 2008 at 5:36
When you have good taste, it was of good taste and it's your case. In addition you're gifted, it bothers me - jealousy
Beautiful series! Some let me marble (the 2 and the end or There's too much sky)
But congratulations anyway!!
July 14th, 2008 at 9:21
Ha yeah great to see Ben in another register. And as David says: you'll feel not (yet) in your element. A separate domain. But hey it's okay, you're doing well anyway, your pictures are beautiful colors (including the lighthouse).
Question: I saw pictures in 25sec ... Exif filter gray or bug?
Question subs: Edinburgh?

For my part: VIVE LE B & W
Nice set, again.
Congratulations

Finally new pictures on one of my favorites! Thank you RSS feeds.
Another series that demonstrates your mastery of light, contrasts, colors and framing, in short, the picture
The one with the lighthouse and those with the bridge are the ones that I like the most after a "first reading". All those with whom you have rightly used the reflections are beautiful too.
We feel your touch so special, especially in color, contrast, just enough saturation. You have the usual imported raw in C1?
Another small issue: you do a lot of sort? Faced with such beautiful landscapes with lights like we should have a hard time not too strafe?
It makes you want to go! Once again congratulations!

Very nice series, it makes you want to go!

Hi Ben,
Finally, I decided to leave a comment, since the time I visit your site (D70 forum, that date).
I am always in awe of your series, and there, even the landscape, which is not your specialty, the quality is impressive.
I have a few quick questions, if I may:
1) do you push the emphasis on your first plans (the textures are really perfect)?
2) for yarns on the water, do you use such a filter ND8 neutral gray, or is it you initiates when the scene is dark, or 2?
In any case, congratulations again!

David: Thank you!
Alain: I keep my non-myopic eyes!
delphine: Yep, the series (which is not really a) may be a little uneven
MickymX: Actually what is frustrating about this kind of roadtrip is that you roll a max and you have little time to ask you and your framing work. I often find beautiful scenery without light exploitable
And indeed it has some slow exposures (not bug Exif)
Stephanie: Thank you!
SKAL: Glad to read that visitors use the flow
thank you for your comment.
For raw, it's C1 but this time with photoshop behind to lead to some areas and the Channel Mixer for Black and White
Alain:
Andy: Thank you for your questions:
1 - No, but considering all the openings of the images is very clear!
2 - I had a ND400 filter but I realized the images was dusk, the filter was then no longer necessary!

Beautiful shots but I'll do a little boring.
and I would add a bit of vignetting to close in the absence of the foreground.
the # 1: The tones are tops but looks a bit ca.
The # 2: It looks really
the # 3,4,5: It's a little tight as frames for my taste.
the # 6: it lacks a front.
The # 7: Tip top!
The # 8: nice but not great
the # 9: Great! but some of the houses multiply because they attract the eye too.
The # 10: perfect
The # 11: I will make a crop on the bottom to move away from the ratio 1 / 2 1 / 2 because it is really top.
The # 12: tones are good but it lacks horizonlatité I think.
The # 13: color texture but too top 1 / 2 1 / 2 in compo
The # 14: good good.
The # 15: nice symmetry I restate a hair on the top to bring out the stones.
the # 16 & 17: nice symmetry too. I just thumbnails
the # 18 & 19: that sheep is nice but I find the framing a little tight.
The # 20: the colors are tops, a little dust on the way, a bit more prominent.
The # 21: nickel even though it looks a pet '
The # 22: rays give a lot of tension, was to try to recover a little matter of the highlights
The # 23: a little more angle to bring out the Maer behind (I guess)
The # 24: a more panoramic crop.
The # 25: perfect
The # 26: ditto thank you seagull
The # 27: a small crop the bottom
The # 28: framing a little tight for my taste
That's my subjective review
and as usual we recognize the defects of the abbot of the sins he condemns!
July 14th, 2008 at 4:45
Fortunately, you do not yet feel comfortable with the landscape if not, what would it be?!
Personally, I have nothing particular to add except that the pictures are great and the country is said to be beautiful!
July 14th, 2008 at 5:11
lomoseb: No. You just say it's still beautiful
!
I laugh, I share your observations quite well, the penchage on some images often comes from the fact that I was in a 16mm fisheye and the D3 does not have CADRILLAGE, the lesser degree of side is often quite fatal to the fish, the 50/50 compo same, if your horizon is not right in the center deformation is very present.
Good will hop over to apologize to 5cents passont comments comments
the # 1: we agree.

The # 2: Personal has the second reading I find it a bit empty without interest.
the # 3,4,5: I appreciate the very texture of the rock with water that separates good enough volumes.
the # 6: we agree.
The # 7: My masking is a little rough
The # 8: we agree.
the # 9: we agree.
The # 10: we agree.
The # 11: we agree but I do not like cropper in my images
The # 12: oh no it goes well for me like that!
The # 13: we agree (my limitation of fish on the horizon)
The # 14: we agree.
The # 15: we agree.
the # 16 & 17: a force to see vignetting everywhere (the fault LR) I tend to limit the above
the # 18 & 19: question of taste
The # 20: the full version if I type a layer line and I push I realize it is high time that I clean my sensor!.
The # 21: we agree (my limitation of fish on the horizon)
The # 22: we agree.
The # 23: I like this little non PDC which hints at the background
The # 24: The first plan is a little Cracra, but I do not like the crop!
The # 25: we agree.
The # 26: I actually recall the seagull
The # 27: the lower part is actually more interesting
The # 28: I could not help it too if I wanted to stay in the graph
50mm: Thank you! The country is beautiful
July 14th, 2008 at 5:15
things change eh

and it is not bad either, although I have seen either full color or in black and white ... if any ... All in color
Finally, it concerns only me!
ez,
G
July 14th, 2008 at 5:36
I return to issues that lean horizons
There is not an electronic level on the D3 it could be useful in this situation, right?
July 14th, 2008 at 7:21
Ben thank you for these answers.
July 15th, 2008 at 24:23
Ben I'm probably right audience or perhaps a less sophisticated look, but I find this excellent series, it even gave me want to go ... so for me the goal is reached (even if n was not your goal)
July 15th, 2008 at 7:55
Glad to read that I am not alone in disliking the crops! I finally feel alone on some forums
.
Bravo for the rest. The series is indeed uneven but given the quality of the best, the worse is nevertheless fun to watch.
July 15th, 2008 at 2:48
Still a very beautiful series that can escape
Bravo
PS: could you tell me that plugin you are using to generate the display of long horizontal strip series? I've seen the process on other sites but I can not find the info.
July 15th, 2008 at 3:08
how do you manage to have colors like that?
you have a polarity, or is the post processing j'avous it's been several times that I try to have the same record that you with nx but can you enlighten me hoooooooo Blowjob Master
July 15th, 2008 at 4:35
ph @ Zer: Pictures are good but as noted lomoseb some points for improvement
Klesk: Personal everyone does what he wants, I like to fit my personal pictures to the shooting to build a maxium resolution offered by the housing
, And then landscape it's not like I was trying to follow a chevreil theft, I have time to think and ask my framing
Pingui: Thank you for posting the series is a fairly simple script that someone has helped me realize it is not open source though a lot of people came to get my site
Kapu: it's just the light, I have other pictures of Scotland scenery with equally interesting but decidedly flat light that ultimately does not work
For the pola no way to mount the fisheye!
July 15th, 2008 at 6:05
I discovered this site, along with this series. Site full of valuable tips, well organized and well written too, which does no harm, and in addition, thank you to be as transparent and let the Exif.
More importantly, what mastery already! Hat, and the Scottish series, I will not choosy, it's just beautiful!
Congratulations again.
July 15th, 2008 at 8:42
nice set as usual!
but the sensor of your D3 is full of dust!
look at the sky in the photo just after the two animals ...
and more as you close your the f-stop, it shows well.
I knew that with my D3 back to the Alps in April ...
I cleaned the sensor with Eclipse, and since it gets better ...
July 16th, 2008 at 7:58
And that's still a wonderful series! I read a fair amount of comment on the fact that you're not comfortable with the landscape photos I found Ben ... "Ben's brand." Vignetting, sharpness, color and sharpness explosive ...
Again I am a fan and if you are not comfortable in the landscape I will like to be as uncomfortable as you
July 16th, 2008 at 11:27
Very interesting series, I find the frames very successful. I'm still very admiration for your series of photos. While I have not exercised enough eye, I find this series as all the other beautiful. Keep it up. And if you have two minutes, take a walk on the site of a friend, http://www.patricemorin.com . The invitation is valid for everyone. See you soon and good luck.
July 16th, 2008 at 1:31
Hi Ben,
As usual 'you're doing well
, Even in an area that you think "you never practiced a lot"
I admire your talent and your ability to adapt high-speed ... it leaves dream.
Development level, I have not read all the comments above but you are still under NX or C1? Are there any localized editing?
I love u Ben
A +
July 16th, 2008 at 2:51
Phenri: Thank you! I like when people leave their ca Exif can sometimes understand a decision
XLR8: Yep the sensor is obviously pretty dirty, I get very raremment above 5.6 so most of the time I do not realize
I would go for a walk in customer service
Oli: When I say that I am not at ease, I try not to play a modest false 2cents, most of the time I work with low PDC and a fairly tight. In this case the challenge was for me to do my part and work with such great depth, the beautiful light it starts to return
gael_nc: Thank you, I'd do a little tour on the website of your friend
ksh: Never NX, too slow (but super good) then C1 complement with photoshop to "mount" my sky especially in the N / B
July 16th, 2008 at 6:42
Congratulations Ben,

it makes you want to go.
Quick question, how we make to see the EXIF?
July 16th, 2008 at 8:10
Not used for landscapes? And well, what would have been otherwise!? !
Bravo, I gasped, I honestly want to check it out!
July 17th, 2008 at 11:20
hello ben and bravo, great series, one with the lighthouse surpassing the others ... I must say that I'm jealous
I thought back beautiful pictures of Scotland (I go from 26/07 to 02/08), you've pulled the rug out from under! I have pressure there! bluffing
July 21st, 2008 at 3:12
Beautiful photos!
I just want to know how you do it for the river spun without being over-exposed?
July 21st, 2008 at 8:43
"The landscape is an area that I have too little explored until now"
You're nice, you leave us a tit something where we may be able carton too?

July 30th, 2008 at 6:29
Congratulations for your pictures!
I was wondering, since you often with your mops D3, you're not interresting by the D700?
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:46

Congratulations and good luck

Does the gentleman not tell you is that it will soon be published in the next magazine "images & Nature" by one of his pictures of Scotland. Not bad for a beginner in landscape
October 2nd, 2008 at 2:14
Especially the landscape continues! (Also)
There is a beautiful exhibition of Josef Hoflehner the Young Gallery in Brussels. To see! http://www.josefhoflehner.com/portfolios.html

There are also a lot of good landscape photographers on "Deviantart" per ex: http://lucias-tears.deviantart.com/art/Ancient-Pathways-49768474

Hi Benjamin.
Even if you write you little explored in this area, I take my hat off. Either this is the place that makes your photos are really beautiful, but I think rather that it is the photographer who did a good job
Congratulations Benjamin.
