Photos of Scotland
July 14th, 2008
Back a little restorative week in Scotland I propose a small set loose with mainly landscape menu.
The landscape is an area that I have too little explored until now. Level equipment I took with the D3 as optical: 16mm, 12/24 Dx, 50mm, 85mm and 80/200 all housed in one of CompuTrekker in lowepro.
avec de petites ouvertures. In the end I realize that my D80 with a 18/200 would have been more appropriate, almost all the images were taken at 200 iso with small openings. Landscape is mainly research the great depth of field and exposure time were rarely of importance (with the tripod).
m'a donc permis d'embraser le plus grand champs possible avec la contrainte de bien respecter les lignes d'horizon pour éviter la déformation inhérente de l'objectif. In this case I did not have a true wide angle, 12/24 is a DX lens and can not be used that from 20mm fisheye has allowed me to engulf the largest possible fields with the constraint observe the horizon lines to avoid the inherent deformation of the lens.
I intend to complete this post in the coming days with a few tips on the trip to Scotland with a few images to illustrate this information.
Feel free to share your comments and questions to me!

It's not bad at all, we're feeling actually a little less comfortable in this kind of exercise, but for a start it's still very good.
July 14th, 2008 at 4:31
you're really good at all, you is frustrating
give me your eye
July 14th, 2008 at 5:36
When you have good taste, it is good taste and what is your case. In addition you're good, it bothers me - jealousy
Beautiful series! Some leaves me cold (and the two late or there's too much sky)
But congratulations anyway!!

Ha yeah great to see Ben in another register. And as David said: you will not feel (yet) in your element. A separate area. But hey it's okay, you're doing well anyway, your pictures are stunning colors (including the lighthouse).
Question: I've seen pictures ... 25sec gray filter or Exif bug?
Question subs: Edinburgh?

For my part: VIVE LE B & B.
Beautiful series again.
Congratulations

Finally a new picture on one of my favorites! Thank you RSS feeds.
Another series that demonstrates your mastery of light, contrasts, colors and frames, brief photo
The one with the lighthouse and those with the bridge are those that I like most after a "first reading". All those with whom you have rightly used the reflections are beautiful too.
We feel your touch so special, especially in colors, contrast, just the right amount of saturation. Thou hast as imported raw in C1 habit?
Another small question: you do a lot of sorting? Faced with such beautiful scenery with such lights must be difficult not to strafe too?
It makes you want to go! Once again congratulations!

Very nice set, it makes you want to go!

Hello Ben,
Finally, I decided to comment since the time that I visit your website (D70 forum, that date).
I am always in awe of your series, and then, even the landscape, which is not your specialty, the quality is impressive.
I have a few questions, if I may:
1) is that you push the emphasis on first your plans (textures bear squarely perfect)?
2) for yarns on the water, do you use a neutral density filter ND8 gray kind, or is it that you trigger when the scene is not lit, or two?
In any case, congratulations!

David: Thank you!
Alain: No I keep my myopic eyes!
delphine: Yep, the series (which is not really a) may be a little uneven
MickymX: Actually what is frustrating in this type of roadtrip is that you roll a max and you have little time to ask you and your framing work. It has often happened to me to find beautiful scenery but usable light
And indeed it has some slow poses (so no bug Exif)
stephane: Thank you!
skal: Glad to read that visitors use the flow
thank you for your comment.
For raw is C1 but this time with photoshop behind to lead some areas and the mixing layer for Black and White
Alain:
Andy: Thanks for your questions:
1 - No, but given the openings images everything is very clear!
2 - I had a ND400 filter, but I realized the picture at the end of the day, the filter was then no longer necessary!

Beautiful shots but I'll do a little boring.
and I would add a bit of vignetting to close in the absence of foreground.
the # 1: The colors are tops but it looks a bit.
the # 2: It really looks
the # 3,4,5: This is a little tight as frames for my taste.
the # 6: it lacks a foreground.
the # 7: Tip top!
The # 8: nice but nothing more
the # 9 Geniale! but some of the houses multiply as they draw the eye too.
the # 10: perfect
the # 11: I will make a crop on the bottom to move away from the ratio 1/2 1/2 because it is really great.
the # 12 tones are good but I think lack of horizonlatité.
the # 13: color textures but too top 1/2 1/2 component
the # 14: good good.
the # 15 nice symmetry I retraiterai a bit on the foreground to bring out the stones.
the # 16 & 17: beautiful symmetry too. I just vignetterai
the # 18 & 19: the mutton is nice but I think the framing a little tight.
the # 20 colors are tops, a little dust on the way, a bit more prominent.
the # 21 nickel although ca looks a pet '
the # 22 rays not give a lot of power, had to be trying to recover a little matter of the highlights
the # 23 a little more angle to highlight the maer behind (I guess)
the # 24: a panoramic crop.
the # 25: perfect
the # 26 ditto thank you seagull
the # 27 a small crop down
the # 28 frame a little tight for my taste
That is my subjective review
and as usual we recognize the vices of the sins he condemns Father!
July 14th, 2008 at 4:45
Fortunately you're feeling is not yet comfortable with the landscape if not what would be?
Personally, I have nothing particular to add except that the pictures are great and the country is said to be beautiful!
July 14th, 2008 at 5:11
lomoseb: No you just say it's still beautiful
!
Just kidding, I agree with pretty much your remarks, penchage on some images often stems from the fact that I was a 16mm fisheye and the D3 does not have cadrillage, the lesser degree of side is quite often fatal to fish, the com 50/50 ditto, if your horizon is not right in the center deformation is very present.
Good will hop over my apology to 5cents passont comments comments
the # 1: we agree.

the # 2 personal to the second reading I find it a bit empty without interest.
the # 3,4,5: I appreciate well the texture of the rock with water that separates good enough volumes.
the # 6: we agree.
the # 7: My mask is a bit rough
The # 8: we agree.
the # 9: we agree.
the # 10: we agree.
the # 11 we agree but I do not like cropper in my pictures
the # 12: oh no it goes well for me like that!
the # 13: we agree (my limitation of fish on the horizon)
the # 14 we agree.
the # 15 we agree.
the # 16 & 17: a force see vignetting around (the fault LR) I tend to limit the above
the # 18 & 19: matter of taste
the # 20 on the full version if I type a threshold layer and I push I realize it's time I clean my sensor!.
the # 21 we agree (my limitation of fish on the horizon)
the # 22 we agree.
the # 23: No, I like this little PDC that hints the background
the # 24: The first plan is a little cracra, but I do not like the crops!
the # 25: we agree.
the # 26: I actually like the reminder of the seagull
the # 27: the lower part is actually more interesting
the # 28: I could not do too much else if I wanted to stay in the graph
50mm: Thank you! the country is beautiful
July 14th, 2008 at 5:15
it changes huh

and it's not bad either, although I have seen either in full color or in black and white ... if ... All color
Finally, it concerns only me!
ez,
G
July 14th, 2008 at 5:36
I return to the problems of all backgrounds who lean
There is not an electronic level on the D3 that could be useful in this situation, right?
July 14th, 2008 at 7:21
Ben thank you for your answers.
July 15th, 2008 at 24:23
Well I'm probably right audience or perhaps a less sophisticated look, but I found this excellent series, it even made me want to go ... so for me the goal is reached (even if n was not your goal)
July 15th, 2008 at 7:55
Glad to see I'm not the only one not loving crops! I finally feel alone on some forums
.
Bravo for the rest. The series is uneven effect, but given the quality of the best, the worst is nonetheless nice to watch.
July 15th, 2008 at 2:48
Still a very beautiful series that can escape
Congratulations
PS: could you tell me that plugin you use to generate the display of series long horizontal strip? I've seen the process on other sites but I can not find the info.
July 15th, 2008 at 3:08
how do you to have colors like that?
you have a polarity or is post processing I avous it is several times that I try to have the same output as you with nx succet but can you enlighten me master hoooooooo
July 15th, 2008 at 4:35
ph @ Zer: The pictures are good but as noted lomoseb some points for improvement
Klesk: Perso everyone does what he wants, personally I like my images to fit the shooting to build a maxium of the resolution offered by housing
And then the landscape is not as if I was trying to follow a chevreil theft, I have time to think and ask my framing
Pingui: Thank you for posting this series is simple enough that someone helped me make a script, it is not open source, even if a lot of people have come to retrieve my site
kapoue: it's just the light, I have other pictures of Scotland with landscapes equally interesting but decidedly flat light which ultimately gives nothing
, No way to get on the polarity of the fisheye!
July 15th, 2008 at 6:05
I discovered this site, along with this series. Website full of valuable advice, well organized and well written too, which does no harm, and in addition, thank you to be as transparent and let the Exif.
But above all, what already mastered! Hat, and the Scottish series, I will not be picky, it's just beautiful!
Congratulations again.
July 15th, 2008 at 8:42
nice set as usual!
but the sensor of your D3 is full of dust!
look at the sky on the photo just after the two animals ...
more like you closed the tone diaph, here sees himself.
I met here with my D3 return the Alps in April ...
I cleaned the sensor with Eclipse, and since it's going better ...
July 16th, 2008 at 7:58
And this is a wonderful series! I read quite a comment on the fact that you're not comfortable with the landscape photos I found ... Ben "Ben brand." Vignette, clarity, sharpness and explosive colors ...
Again I'm a fan and if you're not comfortable in the landscape I would love to be as uncomfortable as you
July 16th, 2008 at 11:27
Very interesting series, I find the very successful framing. I'm still very admire your photo sets. Even though I have not practiced enough eye, I think this series, like all the other beautiful. Keep it up. And if you have two minutes, take a walk on the site of a friend, http://www.patricemorin.com . The invitation is valid for everyone. goodbye and good luck.
July 16th, 2008 at 1:31
Hi Ben,
As usual you're doing well
And, even in an area that you think "you never practiced a lot"
I admire your talent and your ability to adapt very fast ... it leaves dream.
Development level, I have not read all the comments above but you're still in NX or C1? Are there any editing located?
I love u Ben
A +
July 16th, 2008 at 2:51
Phenri: Thank you! I like it when people leave their ca Exif can sometimes understand a decision
XLR8: Yep the sensor is visibly dirty enough, I get very raremment above 5.6 so most of the time I do not realize
I would go for a walk in service
Oli: When I say I am not at ease, I try not to play false to modest 2cents, most of the time I work with low PDC and a fairly tight framework. In this case the problem was for me to do my part and work with this great depth, ca beautiful light begins to return
gael_nc: Thank you, I'd do a little tour on the website of your friend
ksh: Never NX, too slow (but super good) so C1 complement with photoshop to "mount" my heaven especially in B / W
July 16th, 2008 at 6:42
Congratulations Ben,

it makes you want to go.
Small question, is how to see the Exif?
July 16th, 2008 at 8:10
Not the usual landscapes? And well, what would have been otherwise? !
Bravo, I gasped, I honestly want to go for a ride!
July 17th, 2008 at 11:20
hi ben and congratulations, great series, the one with the lighthouse surpassing the other ... I have to say I'm jealous
I thought back beautiful pictures of Scotland (I go from 26/07 to 02/08), you stole my thunder! I pressure there! bluffing
July 21st, 2008 at 3:12
Beautiful photos!
I just want to know how you do it for the river spun without being over-exposed?
July 21st, 2008 at 8:43
"The landscape is an area that I have too little explored until now"
You're nice, you let us tit something where we can perhaps carton too?

July 30th, 2008 at 6:29
Bravo for your images!
I was wondering, since you often mops with your D3, are not you interrese the D700?

What has not told you, sir, is that it will soon be published in the next magazine "pictures & Nature" with one of his photos of Scotland. Not bad for a beginner in landscape
October 2nd, 2008 at 2:14
Especially the landscape continues! (Also)
There is a beautiful exhibition of Josef Hoflehner the Young Gallery in Brussels. To see! http://www.josefhoflehner.com/portfolios.html

There are also a lot of good landscape photographers on "Deviantart" per eg http://lucias-tears.deviantart.com/art/Ancient-Pathways-49768474

Hello Benjamin.
Even if you write you little explored in this area, I take my hat off. Either this is the place that makes your photos are really beautiful, but I rather think it is the photographer who did a good job
Congratulations Benjamin.
