Vertpop pictures

June 16th, 2008

This Friday, June 13th festival was held on Vertpop (for its 5th edition) in a more exceptional: the Gesu Church. ), Tom Barman (dEUS – Dj Set ), autoKratz (Kitsune – Live ), Sweatshop, Lady Jane, Narcoboys – Light & Video design by CIMATICS. This church of the nineteenth century opens its doors for the first time at a party that welcomes some of the artists most requested of the moment DJs: Klaxons (Jamie Reynolds - Dj Set), Tom Barman (dEUS - Dj Set), autoKratz (Kitsune - Live ), Sweatshop, Lady Jane, Narcoboys - Light & Video design by CIMATICS.

I got there around midnight, the crowd at the entrance of the church was simply enormous, enter by the front door was not possible, call the organizers, I manage to go through the exit door swimming in the crowd.

terminé son set , les deux gars de Narcoboys sont déchainés, je reçois un joli bracelet fluo me permettant de me balader dans les zones réservées au crew et je me place a coté des DJS pour commencer quelques photos sachant qu'ils ne vont plus rester très longtemps. once back, surprise, many people inside and outside the atmosphere in addition, the place is magical and deliciously offbeat Cimatics did a superb job on the lighting, Sweatshop has already completed its set, the two guys Narcoboys are unbridled, I get a nice bracelet fluorescent allowing me to walk in areas reserved for the crew and I stand next to the DJS has to start some photos knowing they will no longer stay very long.

I took three goals, 12/24 the Tokina 17/55 while two Nikon DX format and my trusty 50 1.4, the light is visually beautiful, but terribly pink / red (the worst for a digital sensor) I try some images at 50mm, I'm playing with my white balance, nothing to do, rendering is pink with big applats, I will return to auto white balance by praying for me to catch my balance under Capture One, I do some pictures with flash in slow sync to make sure I have images for use on both DJS.

façon Judas de porte. The 12/24 and 17/55 are just two of the DX lenses, they work perfectly without activate the crop on the D3 has provided you do not go below a certain focal length on pain of being left with a vignette manner Judas door.

, prendre des bouchons n'est clairement pas du luxe quand on va passer 2 heures a genoux devant les enceintes faisant fasse au public et étonnament les écouteurs sont parfaits dans leur rôle. AutoKratz (Kitsune - Live) arrives on stage, I unpack my fortune plugs (intramachin headphones from AKG) I'd look a little less stupid than the last time with cigarette filters in the ears, take caps is clearly not a luxury when you're going to spend two hours kneeling in front of speakers being done to the public and surprisingly the headphones are perfect in their roles.

plan avec de la couleur ). I try to capture the best benefit Kitsune, Slow sync, wide angle, the picture is good (I mean by a frame that I think a little momentum with a background with color). clins d'oeil, on s'est visiblement compris. I meet the gaze of the person responsible for lighting and his expression I understand that my flash it "breaks" atmosphere, I disassembled the flash the ranks of my bag recross our eyes, winks, it was clearly understood.

I raise my 50mm, I'm a 1.4 a 1/25 to 2500 while the isos, it's time to test the D3, I always have a little trouble climbing in sensitivity, this sensitivity on the D200 was clearly unworkable I am cons-diving ahead of Tom Barman (singer of Deus here Dj Set), the setup of light exchange breakneck speed on the images below less than a second separated these three images.

de nos portables. I decided to find a place to capture the crowd and this light, you climb with one of the organizer on stairs by the light of our phones. Setting up the Tripod, 14/24 to 20 mm and a few slow poses. râle de ne pas avoir encore reçu mon 16mm fisheye 2.8 Nikon commandé une semaine plus tot . 20mm is already not bad but I complain of not having yet received my Nikon 16mm 2.8 fisheye ordered a week earlier.

I get down, I work on images with the public always looking for a bright background that will allow me to return the best visual moods while illuminating subjects in the dark with flash with a long exposure time. Back on stage to complete the delivery of images of Lady Jane.

I offer here a selection of 39 pictures on 240 frames of the evening, images that should be on the site of green pop, I kept the EXIF data in images if you want to take a look.

Very beautiful as usual your photos, well-managed lights anyway.
    Thank you for sharing

  2. 50mm Says:

What atmosphere. You are perfectly able to make the atmosphere of the place through your pictures. Personally, I see a difference compared to previous pictures of nights that you had made. Is it due to the progress of the photographer or D3 or maybe even both? : Wink:
Excellent work, full of energy! Congratulations a thousand times ... (I repeat myself, I know : Mrgreen: )

  3. Claude Says:

    Hi Benjamin,

thank you for sharing your valuable experience, and of course your great shots. On this basis, and practicing as much as possible, I have made much progress.

    Claude

  4. Pifgadget Says:

Very good series: the angles are much more varied than your previous series of evenings (must also be due to your pass that can go wherever you want : Smile: ).

I love it in B & W and one with the guy with glasses with green halo behind the head, it's very church ... : Grin:

PS: the funny name of the church (Gesu)

  5. alain Says:

great job as your habit has, despite the disappointment of balance you could go to the colored light its central place in the party, it's all good :)

the increasing iso is very impressive on the small pictures and none really gives the impression of having grown beyond the unit to its capabilities ... here the effect + full size modern treatment : D

still a nice story, and played well for the caps, essential : D

  6. Oli Says:

    A very nice series again!

The framing is better than the previous ... The light and super well-operated and I like especially those with faiseaux green and the next with faiseau money on them the light creating a "roof" of colors. I love ...

I'm glad to hear about the problems of red ... I also realized that there is a concern with the red at a concert with my Canon D40. At first I thought it was a problem of my goal but even with my new (canon 50mm 1.4) the problem is the same ... You have an explanation of these problems red? whether you have a parade if it is not to make photo with a red light on stage?

  7. Nicolas Says:

Congratulations on this wonderful series! Lighting moods of the moment are present in the images.
I am also reassured when this problem with the reds. I made some time ago a show and the lights were in those tones. Result, I had a lot of areas oversaturated red. And trying to retrieve these areas with the white balance later, we have everything that turns blue ... Some info? The subject interests me!
    A more.

  8. Pingui Says:

Very nice series. The atmosphere is particularly well rendered. Bravo :)

  9. Benjamin | photob Says:

    Benny: thank you!

50mm: Let's say the D3 "cash" well, on the other hand I also and my ance frames are in my opinion more interesting, I manage to better fulfill my part and capture moments most interesting :) as the photo of the girl with her lion's head against the guy with his guitar

Claude: thank you nothing like practice ;)

Pifgadget: I usually have the opportunity to go around, but I must admit that when the light and atmosphere are, it is clearly easier

alain: Yep, as said previously it much cash for the sensitivity, keeping noise to a file of 700 pixels with 70k will always discreet enough!

Oli: Thanks! For the problems of red seems to be a problem with the digital in general

Nicolas: I tend to seek safety in exposing slightly to the red (while most of the time I overexploitation of 0.7 on my pictures) then I control my color histogram ;)

    Pingui: Thank you!

  10. cyril Says:

Benjamin Congratulations for this new series has started ... you have everything under control ... will your D3 can be me too ... lol not pass, it bothers me they are my rocks (DX like you ...) but apparently has come to you exploit ....

Color on your profile mode, you leave the sRGB or D3 on this series you are already spent in Adobe RGB??

Thank you again for the shoot's

    A +

    Cyril

  11. Istratov Alexander Says:

Very nice! Shake my head when music is a fun event :)

  12. Karb Says:

Hi Ben nice work .. and I guess especially the conditions of photo-shoot .. ambience sound and fury .. also not simple in relation to your earlier series "bourgeois nonsense" and other ... found you experience very different from the use of a D200 .. ISo management of the D3 is a true revolution is here ....?

  13. Sophie Says:

It looked to be a great event ...

My favorite: 6/16 / and the last of the series.

The place is indeed unusual. But the idea is excellent.
In such event, the caps are obviously recommended if you do not want a headache and feel still booms booms in your ears after the party.

The passage with the look to make you understand for your flash, it does not surprise me. That's why mine is still in the bag. IT is true that the coup is a bit more difficult but the result is worth it!

I am curious to know how was the sound .. ?

  14. michel Says:

Indeed, this kind of event in such a place is already captivating by itself ... What a great device that D3 ... and again how light management and colors, beautiful!

  15. delphine Says:

Maaazette ;) - This is still the party in Belgium!
    Super Series, once again.
I like the fact that images retranslate the atmosphere.
I always liked your frames in the previous series, maybe this time you have more interaction than just portraits?

  16. FoB Says:

I too faced the sake of oversaturation of reds at shows and I have no parade : Evil: .

It seems to me that the boxes have a photosite for the green light to a light blue and 2 red. Can anyone confirm? This could explain sensitivity to red a little too grown under conditions where the light is red.

  17. Alex Says:

A nice series again, who can appreciate the prowess of the D3.
My preferences are for 5 photos of overview where the light changes the place in another dimension each time. Special mention for the NB.

  18. Nawack Says:

What about .... otherwise again congratulations

For the evening for me when the red become too important, I put to work in B & W! : Lol:

  19. David Says:

What can I say except a very nice set again, the atmosphere is very well rendered, the noise management of D3 with images of this size is quite impressive.

But if I can afford and without wishing to offend you in all if you can not say anything when the technique that I find artistically you're doing a little less than usual, I have less blow hearts in this series. But hey it must be admitted that the conditions are extremely difficult, changing lights dim, many parasitic elements and in motion.

    Cordially

  20. olivier Says:

    Cuckoo,

Really congratulations for this result which I find really beautiful! it would be difficult to better capture the mood of the evening ... you were able to transcribe without a doubt!
I remain amazed at the rednu of light and color ... I tell you not to change so bravo! ;)
and thank you for Exifs ...

    @ Benjamin soon.

  21. Benjamin | photob Says:

cyril: Thank you! I'm sRGB but I think the move has RGB ;)

Alexandre Istratov: It keeps abreast ;)

Karb: We will rather speak of a greater ease of use for higher quality in place of revolution :)

Sophie: The sound was far from good, a church is a sound point of view not the most appropriate place :)

    michel: thank you!

delphine: The conditions (darkness, movement, sound) make it more fair in my view to frame wide to better restore the atmosphere!

FoB: I feel that a good balance and manual work in RGB is already a more comfortable level for this problem

    Alex: thank you!

Nawack: I understand but the red / pink in B / W it gives no mass ;)

David: You can go in criticizing I am open ;) , For the artistic side I find it a richer coverage of classic evening or we will find people in group smiling in this series in my opinion there are five "good" images :)

    olivier: thank you!

  22. David Says:

The criticism you concerned yourself only with what I know about your work and my personal taste.

I found this series a little less artistically rich compared to what I used to see thee, for indeed the majority of reports of parties are much less rich for me. You did not simply take groups of people smiling as photographers could do for Tillate, we find here a little while, the crowd, the DJs, outside the room, an overview of the room, portraits ....

So I can reassure you even if I find it less rich than the series of Zinneke Parade or the Marriage of Fatima and Gabriel, there are still some photos in this series that are really worth and why I congratulate you.

  23. Cyril Turla Says:

    Good evening,
It seems to me that this is the first time for me as I leave a message here when I read you for a while already. What can I say except congratulations! You master what you do, it's clean and clear your articles are really quality! Very good luck to you and see you in future articles ...
    Looking forward
