Updating of the site and gravatars
April 2nd, 2008
You are more and more a visit, between 900 and 1400 visitors per day, these visits generate traffic, my hoster (OVH) regularly sends me emails informing me that I'm at the limit in terms of traffic generated (95% of my monthly quota of 30 gigabytes) so I am now thinking to pass the site on a higher plane or OVH me turn to another service provider.
I used that thinking to update the site last night finally migrated to the new version of wordpress (2.5), the new version brings new features:
- A dashboard cleaner, faster and less cluttered,
- The widgets in the dashboard, Sending multiple files simultaneously, with a progress bar
- Extract EXIF
- Search in articles in the pages AND
- Manage tags
- Less queries, a site faster
- Integration of native gravatar ect ...
Something new your Gravatar are now on site in comments (Globally Recognized Avatar), is an online service to link an e-mail to an avatar. The main advantage is to avoid people having to re-download their avatar all the sites on which they subscribe.
To link your mail to your gravatar simply visit the gravatar site , enter your email address and choose your image, the procedure takes less than a minute and lets you view your photo, logo, all sites that use this feature.
Thank you for your many comments!

To change provider because of "too many visitors"? The flip side
A very nice coin!
(Cool for Gravatar)
April 2nd, 2008 at 9:08
Thank you! Yep apparently you knew the service!
April 2nd, 2008 at 9:19
yes, but for a short time, on another photo site ... I have to go to wordpress too, (but I can not retrieve my old messages ...) when I see the design of your site like everyone else, this gives really want.
Gravatar advantage: in addition to customizing his comment, it can easily distinguish, recognize them (his own or those of a pseudo especially) etc..
I say this to convince the skeptics.

I have to pass me in 2.5 it seems to work well after more than one person
The prerequisite for the migration?
April 2nd, 2008 at 9:50
I just want to say congratulations for 900 visits per day!
April 2nd, 2008 at 9:54
ksh, Delphine must put your gravatar a day, I struggle to see who is who
Delphine thank you!
ksh: not really a prerequisite but since I have quite a bit of stuff on the site and custom code, I prefer to recreate the environment locally before migration
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:21
Ok it's good I just did the update for you through gravatars or to activate the plugin?
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:28
ksh, it must be enabled in the Administration Console, and ensure that the template code allows it, you have more information here
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:59
Ok I did that thank you for the link
April 2nd, 2008 at 11:34

I'm at one.com, 1GB space, transfer ilimité to 2.5 per month. Only problem, you can only do one db, then one wordpress blog (AFAIK)
April 3rd, 2008 at 3:56

And this is what happens when one is a reference to the level of digital photography!
I started last week in Wordpress (ie version 2.5 to begin with!) Parallel to my site. This is quite interesting, not too complicated and comprehensive level "plugin". In this regard, I wanted to know what plugin you are using for the statistics displayed on your site (# of visitors, etc. ...) I searched but can not find one?! And not feel like it's fun to code in PhP.
By cons in "host", I administer a site that is at B-Powers ( http://www.b-powers.be) . It's not me who chose but it's not very expensive and the management console of the domain is very complete. The support is done by mail only, but they are very quick to respond in case of trouble.
Good luck with this blog is really a gold mine for any photographer looking to constantly evolve!

Regarding the number of visitors is not very complicated in PHP, you just create a table in your database and every time someone comes on your page you entered its IP with the timestamp in the table you refreshed and all other IP
April 4th, 2008 at 4:46
pixel: The improvements (the backend) are dirt important!
delphine: The name is actually great!
Fred: I've heard great things about their services
Pixel: I am also currently limited to a DB, which poses no problem for me yet (but will cause problems for the future)
krysalia: I would do that!
ksh:
MickymX: It seems to work well!
Twane: No. I think the 'problem' attendance comes from the abundance of "britney spears" in my meta tags
For visitors online I use a plugin available here
Thank you!

Bravo, bravo for this beautiful site, and photos that I consult regularly, but I have a question that tickles me for a while, how do we generate such traffic (1000 visitors per day on average, c is extra)
Art thou the king of SEO?
Congratulations again for a given time.

Laura,
I'm not looking visitors at any price, so I did not use specific SEO techniques. Some sites linkent to mine, people use RSS feeds, Google frequently goes to visit in index and reference in the content, the updates are frequent
April 7th, 2008 at 9:25
I also consult this website regularly and with gravatars is even better
April 8th, 2008 at 5:29
Hi Benjamin,
I use about hosting a 90plan of OVH. 900 MB of disk space and 600GB of monthly traffic. From memory it costs € 53 VAT / year.
It has functions that you may be not very useful for now, such as multi-domain, 5 MySQL databases, ftp public 90 MB, 90 MB of space streaming
