Photos, Walk to the unity of Belgium
November 18th, 2007
I joined Thomas on Saturday morning to make some pictures at the event was expected or nearly 30,000 people.
The light was perfect, cloudless blue skies. Hardware I took the D200 with the 85 1.4 for portraits, the 80/200 2.8 for fetching portrait of further and to crush the prospects, the 12/24 with Tokina's polarizing filter to take the large set angle, and the monopod.
The goal of Monopoly was not stabilize but to allow others to seek views, perched on the D200 its monopoly can easily raise the point of view of 1m85, holding a piece of one arm can easily trigger a more 3m50 from the ground, in this configuration it is of course impossible to fit tight but the risk is measured 12mm part is really big and covered with a little practice it soon reaches a mapping at trial, the Tripping is ensured thanks to the remote bought on ebay .
A concrete example of a situation where I would not have been able to achieve this image. The photo itself is irrelevant but fairly representative conditions Shooting
In this case impossible to approach the subject without jostling, covered in a single cons-diving is possible:

With the housing on the monopod can be approached and look for the best angle:

Another example of taking diving to restoring the presence of the press:

Lots of photographers were at the rendezvous, the likely rélfex digital document and it becomes very difficult to recognize the professional photographer from the amateur, officials basically gave access to areas reserved for people with a big box with a big goal .
In the end I rarely used the 80/200 in preferring the 85 1.4 for high maneuverability and the openness it offers, the large variations in brightness at 11mm were quite complex to manage, some of the crowd sunlight the other in shadow, it is overexposed, it is mouth choices are needed.
Here are some pictures of the day , with images of crowds, portraits and pictures of some scene.

and well. Relatively attractive photos with frames really nice (thank you monopod and remote control).
I really like the way you take pictures and the chrominance you comes out in the end.
By cons I have a question about the EXIF data, I see pictures in 85mm f/1.8 (ie the grandma) => or how a character can be completely clear with this couple 85mm f/1.8?? knowing that it is not necessarily on the same focal plane??
to think, this question seems stupid actually, but ...
@ + And thank you for this video well done.

Indeed. another great series that stands out. bcp of phtoos that you can see this type of évènemment.
And thank you for all the technical specifications ... especially that of the "monopoly"
Nothing to do, but I went to see the show with your photos and I did not see much in my opening .. See all alone because everyone was in the movie theater. But worst of all, the photos seemed printed on plain paper with a matte inkjet so quality left something to be desired
Since all photos, even those from other photographer had the same acabi I deduced that it was they who organized the exhibition, which have a printout. Anyway ... I do not know if you have already had occasion to visit.
In any case this does not prevent me from continuing to enjoy your work

Very nice set.
Bright colors and frames treated under conditions as difficult I guess.
Well done.

Augie: thank you! I'll just dig a little on the side of the monopod that provides images that I could not achieve otherwise
Adrian: For the depth it depends also on the distance of your subject, basically if I was in the mini map eyes were sharp and fuzzy ears, with a full frame sensor the depth of field is even smaller.
Gui: for ideas in my view the "speech" was far from being necessary to the march itself was enough
Dati: Monopoly I will correct
to say that the show organizers have really insist that I bring my pictures, I think the series was not worth the trouble of being exposed, I'd really like to work on the middle of the graph in more detail and more in duration.
Level actually prints the quality is far from the rendezvous, he was financially unable to afford and basically they have done better.
Tom, Zeb, Ksh, Fred: Thank you

Adrian: no prob
Jacques Landrain: I went to see the conditions on the site, and from the moment they are uploaded wholesale home I lose the rights of my images, so I prefer not to upladed home, or maybe with a large watermark

The goal of "Monopoly" was not to stabilize ...
The purpose of the "monopod" was not to stabilize ...
Finally I think
