Flash diffuser Lambency
October 26th, 2007

I'm not a big fan of flash, but in some situations it is still very difficult to do without it, the "problem" major flash for me is the scattering of light, the light exiting the flash is directly and very few broadcasts that usually causes image "flat" with significant shadows.
The first SLR to have to work as a "bounce" we seek a surface, usually as neutral as possible and we orient the flash head to the surface (wall, ceiling, ...) which will "break" the harsh light and give an indirect light, softer.
Under certain conditions, like in a church, it is impossible to work in bounce, the ceiling is usually too high to reflect light coming from the flash, a few props picture (as LumiQuest) offer solutions that are secured to the head Flash, these solutions are based on two principles, reflection and diffusion.
I bought some time ago in a small box has LumiQuest light that comes to "scratch" on the flash head (about 20 euros), more light is already posted online for lighting but for me it 's is not a panacea, with the use of a very wide angle for group shots the light is too direct and coverage of the flash is not wide enough.
I discovered when I went to a U.S. forum, the presenter of a kind Lambency tupperweare, silicone thick enough, apparently the old version was "hard" it is flexible, allowing the crush in its camera bag. The Lambency is transparent and grooved, which allows you to lose less energy and diffuse the light well, I enjoyed my previous order on ebay (the remote for the D200) to add this accessory to my basket and take advantage of postage.

The diffuser is fixed on the flash head vertically, the flash enters the concave dome and then be reflected through the grooves, coverage and distribution is therefore maximal (light loss as well). It is recommended to push the flash of a diaph to offset the loss of power.

I could make some images to test and the result looks really interesting, so in summary:
- Positives: Cheap, high diffusion, maximum coverage, may well be used in flash deported in the middle of a room given the degree of coverage.
- Negatives: discretion (we have a little feeling to walk with a pot of noodles on top of the flash), congestion in the larger camera bag with accessories LumiQuest, a slightly higher consumption of flash.

October 26th, 2007 at 6:54

October 27th, 2007 at 10:50

This flash diffuser Lambecy is an outright infringement of the Lightspere of Gary Fong, so much so that they return the pictures G. Fong (3 thumbs of a beautiful blonde) to show the effect of diffusion on ebay that exposes the product!
I bought a lightsphere (cloud model), and whether the Lambecy is as effective, I have to say a word for it! The effect is simply bluffing in portrait, soft lighting and shading, I rediscovered my flash!

Having also bought a lightsphere but the model II which is the model more clear and good for the little that I could test, yeah, it really gives a lovely light.
It's still early galley to find the right settings ...
PS: they are so good that it's pictures??

Eric quite a pure forgery that of Gary, and for having both at hand I can assure you that there is no difference (other than price, of course
) And I confirm, I covered two private events and the result is stunning.
Adrian has not yet post the photos were private events covered and I do not'll post the pictures here if you've done "with and without" has not hesitated to post here

oki no pb ...
bin for the moment I really did not test properly speaking, except make my head at arm's length with and without ... so I do not post them shits c ...
by cons on my site (see click on my name in the comments here ...
), Most of the photos from the series' shooting Julie "were made with lead to the shadows. And yeah, it eats a lot of flash because the batteries showed signs of weakness (the first time it happens ...)

I also purchased the Tupperware, it's horrible actually, it takes the place and I'm still not sure when and or use it just mostly comparing it to the bouncing wall "but it must necessarily be that I do my testing contained environment.
Regarding the tests available on the net, a little research on Flickr gives AC:

and finally, very detailed:

The latter included tests of Demba Spread Pro, another option outgrowth has put on your flash.
I particularly recommend this photo:

Hello
I compared the Gary Fong lightshpere relative has many other methods of distribution, including the flash bounce. After all it is very important for my profession of phtoographe marriage.
You will find the results of comparative test of sprinklers in:
http://www.photographe-mariages.net/photographe/flash/resultat-diffuseur-flash.htm
But I can already tell you that inside there is the highest ranked.
Slts,
Nice Wedding Photographer

PMN: Thanks for your test, but in fact all the interest of the Gary Fong is proposing to do when you bounce does not limit available such as a church, if your test on a simple goat pafond the 45 degrees would have given satisfactory results

Hello
After having researched and studied several broadcasters, I finally ordered a Demba.
This article (along with others on this site) but I was very helpful in my choice (this type of attachment is finally only way to achieve good lighting), and I thank you !
I have published the results of the comparison in a small article http://www.etisan.ch/wordpress/2009/02/07/diffuseur-reflecteur-pour-flash
I am allowed to quote your article attached for the information he gave me.
Have a nice weekend
