Flash Diffuser Lambency
October 26th, 2007

I'm not a huge fan of flash, but in some situations it is still very difficult to do without it, the "problem" major flash for me is the scattering of light, the light flash is out of direct and very few broadcast which usually causes image "flat" with important shadows.
The first thing to do is to work in "bounce" we seek a surface, usually as neutral as possible and it directs the flash head to the surface (wall, ceiling, ...) which will "break" the harsh light and provide indirect light, softer.
Under certain conditions such as a church, it is impossible to work in bounce, the ceiling is generally too high to reflect the light coming from the flash, some photo accessories (such as LumiQuest) offer solutions that are fixed on the head of flash, these solutions are based on two principles, reflection and diffusion.
I bought some time ago in a small box LumiQuest a light that comes to "scratch" on the flash head (about 20 euros), the light is already longer transmitted light to live but for me it 's is not a panacea, with the use of a wide angle for group shots the light is too direct and coverage of the lightning is not wide enough.
I found myself walking around in a forum on US, the broadcaster Lambency a kind of tupperweare, silicone thick enough, apparently the old version was "hard" it is flexible, allowing the crush in its camera bag. The Lambency is transparent and grooved, thus losing less energy and diffuse the light well, I took my previous order on ebay (the remote for d200) to add this accessory to my basket and take advantage of postage.

The diffuser is fixed to the flash head in an upright position, the flash reaches the concave dome and then be reflected through the grooves, coverage and distribution is maximum (the loss of light as well). It is advisable to push the flash of an f-stop to offset the loss of power.

I could make some pictures to test and the result looks really interesting, so in summary:
- Pros: Cheap, high flow, maximum coverage, may well be used in remote flash in the middle of a play given the degree of coverage.
- Cons: discretion (it was a bit like walking with a pot noodle on the head of the flash), congestion in the camera bag with the largest LumiQuest accessories, use a slightly larger flash.

It's basically a Lightsphere at a price a little more reasonable!
October 26th, 2007 at 6:30
I would love to see the result, for cons, it's great moche
October 26th, 2007 at 6:54
Spica, yes it is quite a Lightsphere, but the official returns is 69 euros , 10 euros it has
October 26th, 2007 at 6:57
c true that it looks like the Lightsphere but affordable ...
I also do not mind a little review ...
by cons, it's funny because even with the product photos are ... well we recognize the master's work, even with that picture lambda to the base, leaves us with beautiful pictures ... lol

What's the address of your eBay seller? Thank you.
October 27th, 2007 at 10:50
The same, I'm much more influenced by product photos as a possible use of pot noodles in itself!

October 29th, 2007 at 2:36

I hate to see what happens, it would change the opinion may be that I made using a flash

I wait to press the button "buy"

photos, photos ...
and especially to a review of an idea of the potential ...

This flash diffuser Lambecy is simply an infringement of the Lightspere Gary Fong, so much take back pictures of G. Fong (3 vignettes of a beautiful blonde) to show the effect of diffusion on the ebay page that outlines the product!
I bought a Lightsphere (cloud model), and if the Lambecy is as effective, I have one word to say: go for it! The effect is simply stunning portrait, soft lighting and shaped, I rediscovered my flash!

Having also bought a Lightsphere II model but that model is the most clear and good for the little I've experienced, yes it really gives a lovely light.
It's still in the early galley to find the right settings ...
PS: they are good then where is picture?
November 29th, 2007 at 11:29
Eric, quite a pure forgery of that of Gary, and to have had both in hand I can assure you that there is no difference (besides price, of course
) And I confirm, I covered two private events and the result is stunning.
Adrian, not a poster of photos of the events covered were private and I do not post any pictures here, if you made "with and without" not hesitate to post here
November 29th, 2007 at 8:15
oki no pb ...
bin for the time I did not really test strictly speaking, except to my head at arm's length with and without ... so I do not post any shit ... c
by cons on my website (see click on my name in the comments here ...
), Most of the photos from the series "shoot Julie" were performed with the shadows to lead. And yes it eats a lot of flash as the batteries showed signs of weakness (the first time it happens ...)

What is a good price for a broadcaster like that including shipping on ebay?
January 17th, 2008 at 7:23
Well I bought this on Ebay Lambency early January, I am still waiting delivery.
mail sent to the seller, for now I have no answer. I have to take pictures next week and I wanted to use it. I think it will be possible. I hope I still have a response and the object in question because of course available to the payment, he was accepted ...

I also bought the tupperware, actually it's awful, it takes up space and I'm still not convinced of when and where to use it exactly especially when comparing this to the "wall bouncing" but it must necessarily be that I do my testing in confined environments.
In terms of tests available on the net, a little research on Flickr gives ca:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/sheniferous/358019451/
and finally very detailed:

The latter included tests of Demb Broadcast Pro, another option for growth has put on your flash.
I particularly recommend this photo:

Hello,
I compared the Gary Fong lightshpere relative to many other methods of dissemination, including the bounce flash. After all it is very important for my job phtoographe wedding.
You will find the results of the comparative test of broadcasters here:
http://www.photographe-mariages.net/photographe/flash/resultat-diffuseur-flash.htm
But I can already tell you that inside he is best ranked.

PMN: Thanks for your test, but in fact the whole point of Gary Fong is to propose to the Bounce when you have no ceiling available such as a church, in the case of a simple test your goat on pafond on a 45 degree would have given satisfactory results

Hello,
After researching and studying several broadcasters, I finally ordered a Demb.
This article (and others on this site) but I was very helpful in my choice (this type of accessory being ultimately a means to good lighting), and I thank you !
I published the results of my comparison in a small article http://www.etisan.ch/wordpress/2009/02/07/diffuseur-reflecteur-pour-flash
I allowed myself to quote your article attached for the information he gave me.
Have a nice weekend
