Portraits of Lara, after
August 8th, 2007
We had planned at the base to make the pictures in two stages, the first has to learn to know each other make some pictures to analyze the results to see if there was agreement on the choice in terms of composition, framing and rendering, and then to work on a series knowing what we wanted to achieve.
The first series is really well, both in terms of the contact of the images obtained, in the past I was very focused on my frames and lots of "stress" techniques. I try now to get the most out of my collaboration with the person asking by focusing on the expressions and light.
I stand at 50mm it matches what I was looking for in terms of framing and optical quality, I manage now to see what part the 50 without a look through the viewfinder. This series was therefore carried out only with openings between 50mm f1.
4 and f2 more by choice than by technical constraints.
The place was recommended by Thomas , a former sanatorium dropped very frequently visited by many photographers being 15 minutes from Brussels.

We started making some images by taking advantage of the many bright colors graffiti present, the natural light of a cloudy day was perfect.
But these images remind me quite a number of images seen here and (with a pretty ugly picture of a hunter number image with a naked chick and a pair of boots posing "a sensual ..." before a zoli grafiti, some images visibly traumatized me ...)
We strolled in the beautiful place in search of different light, the sanitarium really offers atmospheres and temperatures very different light. N / B this has quickly become obvious, some images have gained strength in retaining the color, but I like to keep a unit in this series. I'll probably be posting next week some colors to complete this post.
The sanatorium is both very present and conspicuously absent from this series, it gave me some very nice lights, but I put very little built in my compositions be it via my framing or via my depth of field.
I will try to return this time alone to immerse myself a little more places and bring back images that I will be working on future rounds.
Finally a big thank you to Lara for his patience and availability!

Hi Benjamin,
Another great series even though I have a preference for one before.
Can I ask you as a result you get B / W like this, as applied by treating you on your image?
Good luck,
Romain.

Han but it's too good!
No broadcaster this time?

Your really beautiful B / W, real emotion at the picture, you have really escalated in the last series in your light management
Congratulations!

KSH: Capture One can not get out of NB, so I worked in lightroom and then I exported the images for the web. Rendering of the 's really different lights
Mdkart: reflector diffuser 's really good, in this case I left it aside so as not to be generous during our travels, I'd have to find someone to wear during sessions or invest in one arm for fit on my tripod.
Fred: thank you!

Hi Benjamin,
I watched the series with great interest since I am changing the site and your work for some months.
Already I join the chorus of praise to congratulate you (sounds a bit classical strength: p).
I find your last two series much more accomplished. the use of light is excellent, the lack of "systematic penchage" as I've read on HFR.
Anyway as you have explained so well you master the technique smoothly, we can just appreciate the quality of your photos and see the evolution of style.
By cons I have just one question, you had tested lightroom I think you worked out on Capture Nx on your last picture, you have abandoned Lightroom? it seemed to me that lightroom treatment applies to the image of the transfer under the program without user intervention (?), I assume that ca not appropriate for you?
Anyway it's really well done series I think the most successful

Fab thank you,
Capture NX (by Nikon) I refuse to touch it, it is impressive in terms of image quality crude, but it's much too slow and not very intuitive for me. The previous series (in color) was derawatisée in Capture One (edited by Phase One), Capture One does not even make the B / W, so I did my B / W in Lightroom (Adobe) that is powerful but a little too heavy for me, I will soon change PC configuration to switch to a more powerful configuration to work more efficiently.
August 8th, 2007 at 3:55
Oops sorry I confused Capture NX and Capture one, mea culpa ... this is the problem of being under Canon, Nikon is known too, although I was long ago Nikon user ^ ^
Thank you for your answer
By cons, for my part, I have experienced difficulties in derawtiser lightroom for my pictures, the latter systematically showing the contrast and light. I've looked in options, not change it. So I went in DxO demo, very nice although a little more difficult to use initially.
If you want, I'll hold you aware of my various tests?

I'm glad that you've done a series in B & W with this charming pattern, as you said it was difficult for the previous because of the background that does not lend itself
The result is very good, the place brings beautiful lights and you were able to enjoy all this. Ah if I knew such places in Liège
(It must surely be there ...)
For the configuration of your PC and switch to Lightroom you think what kind of material? (Qu'utilises you now?)
August 8th, 2007 at 4:12
Fab, for now I am content in the RS B / W, the rest I would see after (when I have a machine that can take a little load), does not hesitate to let me know that I remains very faithful to Capture One
Jonathan, thank you for the current config I am with a P4 3.4 gig and 2 gig of ram, I will move on a quad core xeon with 4 or 8 gigs of ram

If it's any help in finding a foot reflector, we must seek "reflector holder".
I found this example.
I think I will soon invest in a kit in a reflector 5 + feet. It costs next to nothing really for the results it gives, especially since I love the lights very diffused.

Excellent Ben, the eyes are beautiful even in NB. And as an architect, the sanatorium is a choice of luxury
Garre but the police on the prowl for squateurs.
yes, lightroom bcp food, but it remains the best, especially since the update 1.1. I have 4Gb on XP that runs in only 3 ... and I do not want vista. I move to Mac seriously.
I hate to see your pictures off the turf last Saturday, I saw you shootais well GRIMELOCK
next time I come to greet you! I did not have my D200 ...
August 8th, 2007 at 11:41
Thank you Nix,
The photos are arranged turf on the site, I'm not happy with the masses of pictures primarily to very difficult conditions (almost no ambient light) if you want to have a look are the

See you soon!

Oh yes you will pass a config rather muscular
There to3 weeks I went from P42.8 1gb of ram C2D E6600 2GB Aun value of (good) ram and I can already see differences bcp and lightroom is totally usable at speed.
I can only imagine with the configuration that you will do lol
Like Nix I do not veus vista and put 4gb of ram in XP it is a waste, I hope to one day go Mac!
Mdkart thank you for the link, I also seek that kind of accessories, I have a diffuser that I never use because nobody to hold

Fab for asking the question: LightRoom Aplique actually defaults to importing (s) photo (s). It applies the parameters 'curves tones - defaults LR' found in Section DEVELOPMENT. On import, just put expansion parameter to NO.
Ben> as usual exemplary work ... I'm torn between this and the previous series. The two talk to me, I love the light on it ... a lot of the Sanatorium. (The one where Lara raises his arm is not very natural at the position against the light that emerges from the left YUM)

Could you give the exact address of the place please?
The series is superb.

MickymX: For me these two sets are complementary but clearly I have a clear preference in terms of expressions and light for the series B / W
jean-luc: Thanks for your comments, I have not yet tested the NX update but I did not catch the ergonomics of the application soon!
Sakana: I do not know the exact address but the place is just next to a nursing home has the acacias Tombeek!

Well, well, still the sanatorium
September 22nd, 2007 at 3:12
I regularly spend on your site youngest, and it is clear that I must stop on the series of photos made with Lara every time. Whether the series color or B / W, I am totally a fan!
November 10th, 2007 at 4:21
You have to admit these two series are quite natural, they go pretty well these views, ...
May 21st, 2008 at 7:14
"... I would have to find me someone to wear during sessions ..."
I volunteer!
Two more sumptuous series around Lara, congratulations to you both!

Excellent series. The black and white with pearl onions and the beauty of the model is breathtaking.

Hello Benjamin.
I just viewed and read the two articles about the series of portraits of Lara, and many really beautiful. Whether in color or B & W they are really beautiful. I do have a preference for the N series & B.
Congratulations
A fervent admirer of your work
