Sun, skate and white balance
April 7th, 2007
I had made up his mind to enjoy this sunny day and make some images of urban sports in brussels, towards the center square of the Ursulines.
The spot is loaded and I know in advance that this kind of place it is not necessary to its case, are the people to practice their discipline not to play with models, I am so quiet and I wonder to make some shots, I am requesting approval to a few skaters to avoid the side "I take my pictures and I'm outta here".
I set my flash to lead up, because I want pictures against the light, the scale is self I realize some images, the AF of sigma (18/50 2.8) is very slow in such conditions. I am looking to densify and saturate my sky screwing up a polarizing filter.
The first pictures I like much, but are too cold to my taste, it is 18h and I am looking to make the most of this very hot temperature light, I set my white balance in order to reproduce the colors of late afternoon sun.
The flash is hard to follow in terms of speed and intensity, this practice of fill-in flash is quite new for me and I am far from under control, I trust my position that dose ttl flash too low, I give a correction of 2 stop expo and more clearly that improves things.
Overall I'm happy with the series given the circumstances of shooting and I think going back regularly to learn more about this and do a report on the subject deeper.

1: not very dynamic
2: it works well with people day against the background
3: I think it is too focused
4: ok but the stroke of the flash makes up squate is too bright
5: Superb, just a pity for the hat in front of the guy's mouth
6 and 7: I love
8 and 9: I hang not
10: good view to the shade but I think it is not strong enhancement
11: Pretty but slight halo on the right-most character. It is God!
You got a ttl flash? I thought you only had one sb-24? Oh so what's that you used to trigger remote?

MickymX thank you!
Mdkart, I quite agree with your criticisms, I consider these photos as a rather early, making contact with the place and discipline rather than an end in itself.
For the flash I have a SB600 and SB24, for this kind of pictures would be better on two large elichromes generator

Hi B, again a very successful series, I have trouble even with application letter to your tuning tips to get the same kind of result. In the series I really like the second and penultimate day in cons. This ocher is really fabulous. Continues like this, your sit is really my inspiration for my subjects photo report.
